What Do These Lab Reports Indicate?

Question: I have attached report to baby of 11 months.

He is hospitalised now due to fever.

Now fever fluctuation is little high. It's is increasing and decreasing and the temperature is hundred and three now.

Just wanted to check with you if required to do any further investigation as the platelets count is little low and hemoglobin is lower than require.

He was hospitalised 4 months back due to Dengue. Is there any correlation between dengue and this fever now ?

I have attached old report also for your easy reference.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be due to viral cause

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through the details and understand your concern. I have checked the attached reports and have found nothing concerning. It is not due to dengue and there does not seem to be any correlation with the previous episode of dengue. The platelet count is proper. You need not worry. Most often such symptoms are due to viral infections and often such viral infections manifest with high fever. If your child is otherwise active and playful, I would not be concerned. If not, the doctor would get the child evaluated and reinvestigated. As of now, no further testing is needed.

If your child has fever with temperature more than 100°F, you need to give paracetamol or acetaminophen (P-250, Crocin or Tylenol) to it bring down. Also use tepid sponging. If paracetamol is not effective in bringing down the temperature, you need to use Meftal-P (mefenamic acid) which is more effective. The minimum gap between two doses of Crocin is 4-6 hours.

Please be patient. It may take a few days for the recovery to occur. It should spontaneously resolve in 5-7 days.

The low hemoglobin level can be subsequently dealt with by providing iron supplementation.

Hopefully that would help. Feel free to write back in case of further queries.

Regards
