Posted on Mon, 7 Sep 2015
Question: On 26/06/2015 I got checked my blood sample add the reports are TSH- 7.66, FT3- 3.49, FT4- 1.16, Uric Acid- 5.2, Hgb- 10.6, WBC- 9800, RBC- 3.70. All other reports including USG, Urine Roputine & Culture are normal. I am suffering from weight gain (my height is 5 ft weight now is 73 kg), lower back pain, delayed menstruation, indigestion. The doctor prescribed Eltroxine 50 mg and Orofer XT. As Orofer XT increases stomach problem I shifted to Dexorange Syrup. Eltroxin 50 is continuing, but all the problems still exist. Last period was 48 days ago. I am married (Age 32 years), but no chance of pregnancy. Please guide and also advise whether I would increase the dose of Eltroxin (From 27/06/2015 I took 25 mg per day for 4 days thereafter from 31st I have been taking 50 mg per day empty stomach).

Brief Answer:
Dont increase dosage of eltroxin

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply:

1. TSH is high and can be treated with 50 mcg of eltroxin. No need to increase dosage as of now.

2. Repeat TSH after one month to decide if there is need to increase eltroxin if TSH is high.

3. Your overweight is main reason for irregular and delayed periods. You need to reduce weight by dieting and exercise.

4. It is better to plan for IVF treatment as your age is also increasing.

Let me know if you need any more clarification.
