The first and important step in evaluation of male breast is to confirm whether it is actual breast tissue or just fat deposition. Sometimes in overweight men fat can deposit underneath the breast resulting in breast enlargement. This can easily be differentiated by a physical examination by doctor.
If the breast is actually enlarged, Then the medical term is gynecomastia. There are several possible causes for Gynecomastia including medications, liver dysfunction, testosterone deficiency, increased prolactin levels(seen in prolactinoma, hypothyroidism ),Kidney dysfunction and adrenal tumor.
Investigations focussing on identifying underlying causes needs to be done.
