What Do Persistent Rashes On The Palms Indicate?

Posted on Fri, 6 Jan 2017
Question: My daughter is suffering from rashes on the upper part of both her palms for the last 15 to 20 days. Her age is 16 years. Earlier she had suffered from sun allergy. Initially these looked to be something similar so we tried applying Flutivate which used to work on sun allergy. But we did not notice any improvement. We also tried using normal moisturizer because of the cold season but to no use. Normally there is no irritation or pain. Please advise suitable medication. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Needs to be investigated thoroughly. Medical attention needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and have checked the attached images. The images indeed look concerning. She needs to get blood test for platelet count and coagulation profile done. Moisturizers would not help. Medical attention is needed for evaluation into whether she has clotting problems. Medications can be decided upon only after diagnosis of the underlying condition.

Dear Doctor,

I am travelling and it will be a few days before I can take her to the doctor and get the tests done. Based on your analysis, is there some interim medication possible so that there is no more aggravation

Thanks for your understanding

Brief Answer:
I do not think that it would rapidly worsen. In case it does, visit ER.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. I understand the inconvenience. You can give her some antiallergic like cetirizine once daily for the next few days. You can apply some emollient or moisturizer like calamine lotion or aloe vera lotion topically. Nothing else needs to be done prior to the work up.
