default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: Hi Doctor,

I am attaching my MHC reports done yesterday.

1) The H.pylori results are positive. What are the medicines should I take and for how many days. Is the infection on a very higher side . What are the precautions I need to take to get it cured totally.

2) My ESR is high @ 49mm. Is ESR related to cancer. Do this value shows that some thing is seriously wrong with me or is it because of H.pylori infection.

3) My haemoglobin is 13.9 is it a good value or on a lower side. Is this because of anaemia.

4) My lipid profiles are on higher side. I am prescribed ARBITEL AV 10mg. How long should I continue to get my cholesterol level down. What other medication I need to take for bring down my cholesterol.

5) How are LFT and KFT test results. Is there a problem.

6) I am having intermittent constipation or loose stools for the past two weeks but no bloody stool. Also I get a dull pain in the right lower back. Is that mean there is some problem with my intestine.

7) I am alcoholic . Can I take Liv-52 DS.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your queries. Let me try to answer them one by one:
1. H.pylori is either present or absent. There is no higher or lower side. In this case, H.pylori is present and needs to be treated for. You need to take HP KIT (contains 6 tablets to be taken each day as per the instructions mentioned on the leaf) for 14 days. Discuss with your doctor.

2. ESR is a non-specific indicator. Your alcoholism could possibly explain the raised ESR. If you wish to get concerned, get concerned about your alcohol intake and not cancer. Alcohol is what can cause a large number of things 'seriously wrong'. Try to cut down on it.

3. Haemoglobin level is fine.

4. Alcohol gets converted to fat. It is no wonder that your lipid level is high. Continue to take Arbitel AV unless specified otherwise (possibly till the end of your life). To bring down your lipid levels you need to cut down or eliminate your drinking.

5. Your cretinine level is on the higher side and indicates that your kidney function is declining. There is reason to get concerned. Your GGT level is raised indicating that alcoholic liver damage is underway. Your HbA1c is raised indicating that you need medication to control your blood sugar levels.

6. You need to increase your fibre intake. Take plenty of green leafy vegetables in your diet. Take fibre supplements like Isabgol.

7. Taking Liv-52 is useless. Unless you stop taking alcohol altogether, the damage as in query 5 would continue.

Thanks doctor for your reply.

1) I have vertigo problem also and sometimes I could feel the heart beating fast in chest and head. Is it due to vertigo or high BP ?. I checked my BP it was 150/90. How Do I differentiate the symptoms between vertigo and high BP.

2) I left drinking two days before but feeling restless. I started my medication on Arbitel AV. restlessness is because of the medication or something else ?Suggest me better medicine for BP and cholestrol if any. Can I take amlong 2.5 along with Arbitel AV. List down the side effects of these medications.

3) I started worrying since you said my creatinine levels are on higher side. Does that mean my kidneys are seriously bad and no way to recover. You kind words will give me confidence.

4) Am I really diabetic. IF so what medicines should I take. I feel very shaky and dizzy when hungry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Sorry for the inadvertent delay. Let me try to answer your queries one by one.

1. The raised BP calls for regular medication. You need to visit a doctor and remain under his follow up for the same. There is high likelihood that treating the raised blood pressure would rid you of your vertigo. The difference is that if it is due to some other cause, the vertigo would persist despite the medicine for BP being given.

2. It is good to hear that you have left drinking a couple of days back but you need to be. But I would insist you to be under follow up from a doctor in order to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Arbitel AV is a good medicine and you can rely on it. You can take Amlong 2.5 along. The main side effect of Amlong is that in some patients (not everybody) it may cause swelling of feet.

3. Keeping the blood pressure in control will help in minimizing damage to kidneys. You need not panic.

4. Your raised HbA1c level indicates that you need to remain under monitoring and follow up. It would need a series of measurements to determine whether dietary control would suffice or whether medication for diabetes would be needed. But regular morning walk will help in keeping the condition in control.

Feel free to write back.

Thanks Doctor.

1) I am on HP KIT (Omeprazole (20 Mg)/Tinidazole (500 Mg)/Amoxicillin (750 Mg)). for the past three days. I get stomach burning sensation and acid reflux sometimes. My stool is also loose sometimes. Are these symptoms because of the high dose or is it because I am getting cured. Can I take sucrafill (antacid) when I have acid reflux.

2) I used to take Esmoprozole-D 40 and refluxes were less. Can I add an extra Sompraz-D 40 in empty stomach in the morning with HP KIT will these be an overdose ?

3) What diet should I follow during the HP KIT medication.

4) How to raise my HDL level. What diet should I take to get it on track. I heard walnut and almond helps. How many nuts per day .

5) How long will it take to get my tryglycerides levels to get down after quiting drinking. How long should I continue Arbitel AV.

6) Can I start ayurvedic medicines like phyllanthus amarus (for liver) and amla juice, both in empty stomach in the morning. Will it interfere with the present medication.

7) How do I confirm after the HP kit course that I am fully clean of H.Pylori infection.

Thanks for writing back. Let me try to answer your questions:
1. These symptoms can be present. You need not worry. They are neither good nor bad. You can take Successfully.
2. No, you need not add Sompraz D.
3. Diet which is less spicy and contains more green leafy vegetables. Drink plenty of water.
4. More important than almonds and nuts you need to take sea fish twice a week.
5. You should continue Arbitel AV unless stated otherwise.
6. Cannot comment. I doubt if it is required.
7. You need not confirm. Upper GI Endoscopy is needed for confirmation.
