What Causes Wound Exudate Post Kidney Stone Surgery?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Nov 2015
Question: Hello I have had a kidney stone removed from my left kidney. The stone was large enough that it was removed via my back and a drainage tube inserted. The tubes were removed about 5 days ago and I am still getting drainage from the exit wound from the kidney soaking the dressing. How long will this last and is this normal? The dressing are changed daily wet and sometime very wet.

Brief Answer:
Yes, this is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Urine is kind of irritating for the tissues. So it may take some time until such wound will close. It may take even few weeks.
As long as you do not have any kidney pain, fever, swelling and redness of the wound, you may assume this is fine and you can wait with it. Just keep it clean and change the dressing regularly.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
