Posted on Thu, 17 Aug 2017
Question: I have developed some white patches on the right thigh and below left thigh. I have observed this almost 4months back. One of the doctor referring as vitiligo. In my family no one has this. He is recommending the swab test and thyroid and cbp test. I am bit worried about this. Is it required to go as per his recommendations or better consult one more doctor as second advise.

Brief Answer:
Do not worry but get it investigated and evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I would insist you to upload an image of the affected area. However, I think that your doctor is thinking on the right lines and that you should proceed with the investigations suggested. It is important and only after the reports come you should consider whether you need a second opinion. As of now you do not need a second advice.

Let me know if I could help further.

Brief Answer:
Could be pityriasis versicolor

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for uploading the images. Based on the images it does not look like vitiligo. Rather a fungal infection called pityriasis versicolor seems more likely. I would be glad if you could upload a close up image (you may remove the existing ones). I would also insist you to get a second opinion.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be pityriasis versicolor

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back and for attaching the images. I have checked them and it does not look like vitiligo to me. I would insist you to apply Candid (clotrimazole) lotion or cream topically a few times a day. Wait and watch. However, if the lesion seem to be expanding, it would be a good idea to visit a dermatologist (second opinion) without delay.
