What Causes Water Boils In Stomach Area After Using A Tummy Wrap?

Posted on Fri, 30 Jan 2015
Question: My wife has conceived a baby 4 months before. She used to regularly wear the tummy wrap around her waist to tone tummy size. There are some boils(like water bubbles) kind of thing started developing her tummy region today morning and few at her neck n thighs as well at evening. It seems like allergic reaction in her body. Now we are worried about its spreading to other parts of the body. Now she is getting little pain as well when she touches this boils.

What could be the reason for this boils to develop in her skin?
What medication to be taken to reduce the developed boils completely?
What can be done to immediately stop this boil growth to other area?

She is already taking Cifran 500 based on doctor's advice. Will it work?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of bacterial infection; upload an Image for review.

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have taken note of the complaints.

Boils are bacterial infection of the skin and soft tissue, the infection gaining entry through the hair follicle.
Boils can develop due to bacterial colonization of the skin with Staph. aureus.

I would like to confirm the diagnosis if you can upload an Image of the affected area.
I would like to know whether she has any other complaints like itching?

Treatment of boils is with Oral antibiotics. Oral antibiotics would take care of existing infection as well as prevent new boils from developing.
Oral antibiotics would decrease pathogenic cutaneous flora of staph. aureus thus decreasing the chances of new infection.

My choice of Oral antibiotics for a simple bacterial infection like boil is either flucloxacillin Or cephalexin for a week.
However, she may continue with the Oral antibiotic as already advised by doctor. It would work as well.

Topically she may use an OTC topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin ointment, twice daily for a week.

I think it's a water blister not a boil..

I have uploaded the photo of the infected region. It seems like a water blister to me and not boil..she is not feeling any itching but pain near that bubble.

What will be your advice and diagnosis after seeing the image?

Brief Answer:
I have few more doubts; kindly upload a few more pics

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I have reviewed the Image.

In the Image I can see a few fluid filled intact blisters and I can see a ruptured blister as well.
It is definitely not a simple boil.

I would like to consider a possibility of an Immunobullous disease e.g Pemphigus and also possibility of a bullous drug eruption.

Pemphigus presents with flaccid fluid filled blisters that rupture soon to form painful erosions. There is involvement of the Oral cavity with erosive lesions.

However, I would like to clarify a few more things from you.

-Does she have erosive lesions in the Oral cavity Or scalp lesions as well?

-Are all the blisters intact or have few of them ruptured to form erosions/raw areas?

-Was she on some oral medication prior to the onset of blistering?

-I request you to upload a few more Images?

Regards
