OK, so I have no pain, I'm just a worrier about my body so it's causing me some distress. I can't tell if I have a reduced urine stream, I know a lot of things can be physcosymatic but can you tell me what to look out for? I'm terrified of waking up and just not being able to urinate although I've not experience any hesitation really other than trying to go when I don't have anything to expell.

Brief Answer:
You may do urinalysis and ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

Prostate obstruction happens at age 50 and above and its symptoms will increase as men grow older. Because of your age I would not think of prostate obstruction.

Symptoms to watch out for would be urinary hesitancy, decrease in urinary stream, straining on urination, and feeling of inadequate void/feeling of residual urine after urination.

To be really sure nothing is wrong I would suggest doing a mid stream urinalysis and a kub prostate ultrasound. To check for urinary stream objectively we have a machine that does exactly that. It is called uroflowmetry and your maximum flow should exceed 15mL/sec.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://www.HealthcareMagic.com/doctors/dr-manuel-c-see-iv/66014 I would gladly help you. Best wishes

I don't have access to any of those tests at home, I have some discomfort in my lower groin, almost feels like a testicle ache.

Regarding urinary hesitation, how would you define hesitation?

Brief Answer:
Pls see detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Urinary hesitancy is defined as a delay in the initiation of urination. It is better to have the examinations I mentioned before so we'll be able determine if something is wrong with you.

I've taken the uti test and it was negative

Brief Answer:
pls see detailed answer below.

Detailed Answer:
That's good that your urine test showed negative for Infection. Now you need to do a kidney ureter bladder ultrasound to check for any abnormalities. If the ultrasound came out normal then I can safely say that nothing is wrong with you and maybe you are correct in saying that what you are feeling is psychosomatic in nature.

So I've had a full bloods on kidney and liver and all came back fine as did my prostate, so no infections. How accurate would you day a prostate blood test is for detecting enlargement?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV (11 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Prostate enlargement cant be determined by any blood exam.

Detailed Answer:
Prostate enlargement cannot be determined by any blood exam. It can be palpated during a rectal examination and/or a prostate ultrasound. Another test to check for prostate obstruction is doing a uroflowmetry to determine the flow of urine.

Brief Answer:
PSA wouldn't be useful.

Detailed Answer:
PSA for your age is expected to be very low and wouldn't be useful in my opinion.
