What Causes Unusual Purple-black Bruise Over Lower Ribs On The Back?
Question: I have a mystery purple-black bruise - with no real fading or lightening towards the edges - over my lower ribs on my back. It is darker than any bruise I have seen and large 2cm X 4cm, but without any discernible tenderness. Over the weekend I attended a very alcoholically celebratory funeral and wake and spend two days in bed as a result with a hangover. I am a 39-year-old male, physically very fit but drink and smoke too much with no other disorders other than acid indigestion for which I take proton-pump inhibitors. 8 weeks ago I suspect cracked one or two ribs at the front on that side for which I neither received diagnosis nor treatment but was able to exercise on them 4 weeks later.
Brief Answer:
Blood oozing under the skin
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I could take a notice of the picture you attached and read through the description.
It felt to me that the bruise was definitely a considerable amount of blood that break through the capillaries that run into the subcutaneous space i.e under the skin. Since that was the only spot it could very well be because of an injury which was not perceived by you. So may be trivial. This spot should be absorbed by itself in 10 days time from now. Nothing active application is needed at this point.
I think this should not concern you more than it should, leave it for now and only look at it after 10 days to see it disappear leaving little to no mark on the skin.
