What Causes Tingling Sensation In Clitoris?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Apr 2015
Question: I am a 25 y.o. female with constant tingling sensation in clitoris for 3 days straight. It almost feels like I am permanently "turned on", even though I am not engaging in any sexual activity/thought. This started after having sex 5 days in a row which is unusual for me. (usually only have a few times a month with same partner for 6 years) But for some reason I felt increased libido during these days . A few hours after having sex the 2nd day in a row, i felt pain in the pelvic area and urgency to urinate. Once I urinated pain resolved. Once this tingling sensation started I thought maybe I had a UTI, so the doctor I work for called me in a RX for Cipro 250mg BID x 3 days. I completed 2 days worth and symptoms are only getting worse. I feel burning sensation in very lower abdominal/pelvic region all the way to my clitoris. It is driving me crazy. I made an appointment with a GYN but it is not for another 2 days. I don't know what to do

Brief Answer:
Urine culture and vaginal swab and culture to be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
This sounds very much like a urinary tract infection / vaginal infection.
You have already taken empirical antibiotics, and they are not working.
Actually, the antibiotics should be prescribed based on a culture and sensitivity report, which tells you what organism is causing the infection, and which antibiotics would work best.
The wrong kind can worsen the symptoms, which is what you are experiencing.
So the next step is to have a urine culture test and a vaginal swab and culture too.
Atleast get a urinary culture test done , if nobody except the OB - GYn can do the vaginal swab.
Meanwhile, drink lots of water.
AVoid sex till this clears up.
Cranberry juice will help too.
Use an antifungal cream, not that it would help much, without a proper diagnosis.
Do not use any soaps / gels / cleansers / douches on the area.
Just wash with lukewarm water and XXXXXXX dry.
Wear cotton undergarments.
All the best
