What Causes Tingling Sensation And Numbness In Fingers With Normal Cardiac Tests?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: Hi doctor

My husband started having chest pains which we thought was heart related but all the tests came out fine at the cardiologists. He also started having tingling and numbness in his fingers and palm of his hands(both hands) and heart burn belching started couple days ago and today he was experiencing numbness in his legs. I am so scared and have no idea what this could be. We have noticed that he started getting chest pains after eating dairy but now he has heartburn and more often belching. Even after he stopped consuming dairy for few days he gets the belching from non dairy foods

Brief Answer:
His symptoms may be related to gastrointestinal problems...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your husband has done all cardiac examinations which were normal. In this case his symptoms may be related to gastrointestinal problems especially stomach acidity reflux (GERD) or gallbladder stones.

If you were my patient I would recommend to do:
- Chest X ray
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Upper endoscopy
This will help to find out the exact cause of your husband symptoms.

Hope this will be of help!

Thank You doctor! If it is gastrointestinal problems why would it affect his wrists ( he felt like he had carpal tunnel) for few days and ongoing and weird numbness feeling in his legs. How is this connected? Please let me know. Thank You much in advance

Hi back,

It's typical for visceral pain which isn't well localized. This is why a typical pain from gallbladder is localized on stomach, chest and left arm and on your back.

So your husband has chest pain, with palm and fingers numbness together with belching and abdominal gas. This all put together suggest a gastrointestinal etiology. However the above mentioned examinations will determine the exact etiology.

Hope this was of help!

He has tingling and numbness in both fingers, wrist and hands. Now he started feeking numbness in his left leg not sure if it he is going to get this in his right leg. Does gall bladder only affects left hand? He doesnt have any gall bladder symptoms-pain or discomfort either.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

i mentioned gallbladder as one of the most common gastrointestinal problems that may cause chest pain with hand numbness in one side or on both sides, and symptoms may be related to consuming dairy products or eggs. So there are a lot of symptoms and signs that suggest a gallbladder problem.

However this may be caused from other gastrointestinal problems to including GERD, pancreatitis, collitis etc. The best way to find out the right diagnosis is to do as i mentioned earlier:
- abdominal ultrasound
- upper endoscopy
- blood test (liver and pancreas enzymes)
This will definitely rule out/in gastrointestinal problems.

Hope this will be of help!

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Of course I have seen a lot of patients with the same symptoms and with normal cardiac examinations. In most of the cases their symptoms were related to gallbladder stones (cholecistitis) or GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease or stomach acidity).

Wish you health!
