Question: Hi,

I am taking augmentin duo (2 tablets daily) for inflamed tonsils. After the 4th tablet on the 2nd day, my tonsils are getting better but I have noticed tingling in my arms and legs. Is this serious, should I stop taking the augmentin?

Any information would be greatly appreciated

Brief Answer:
You'd better stop it...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Tingling in the extremities can be related to neuropathy. Although this is not supposed to occur with augmentin, it can't be excluded with 100% certainty. A visit to a neurologist is recommended to determine whether it's neuropathy or not. The neurologist can conduct clinical and laboratory tests to find out.

Just in case it is neuropathy caused by the antibiotic, you'd better stop it and consult your doctor about alternatives. Usually a macrolide can be given but the choice depends on patient's history and recent antibiotic exposure.

You'd better also stop any other potentially toxic drugs or supplements you may use (including alcohol).

I hope you find my comments helpful!

Kind Regards!
