Question: Hi there I gave oral sex briefly unprotected no ejaculation and only for about 10 seconds a week later I've had a mild sore throat - should I be worried...the partner was adimet at making sure I was clean so I stupidly assumed he was too as he was very paranoid about me. I have some post nasal but other than that it doesn't feel like a cold - should I be concerned about an sti

Hi,
I am Dr Mittal.
And I understand your concerns.
The fact that you have managed to get a throat infection soon after the oral sex does not necessarily mean that you have attained a STI.
There may be a more benign infection at work here like a normal viral infection.
However, there is obviously a need to test for a HIV testing and if needed, a throat swab culture.
Most of the times, a throat infection lasts 5-7 days.
So if the infection lasts longer than this, seriously consider the possibility of STIs.
