What Causes Thigh Pain While Suffering From Chronic Back Pain?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 May 2017
Question: Both thighs ache. Could back issues cause this? I have a history of muscle myalgia when using statins. These include Lipitor, Crestor and Pravastatin as the latest.

Brief Answer:
Are you on any statins t this time?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

If you are statins, this is the most likely cause of your symptoms. While back issues could cause thigh pain, this will most likely be a referred pain. It is often not bilateral. Muscle pains on statins is well documented and we always only stop if these pains are severe or terrible interfere with your daily life.

Let me hear back from you on this before making conclusive statements about this.

What tests would you recommend to determine whether it is statin related or referred pain?

Brief Answer:
NO tests to confirm but maybe rule out other possible causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up question.

We might be able to measure blood myoglobin levels which indicate level of muscle destruction. However, this is only meaningful in extensive statin related muscle damage. The first and most important thing at this time is to ensure that there is good clinical evaluation which will guide further measures.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.
