What Causes Tenderness In The Right Side Of Ribs?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 May 2014
Question: I still have some tenderness in the right side of my ribs at my side now. It is the same kind of tenderness/ mild pain/ discomfort I had previously following the pulmonary embolism.
It has moved to the side now. Is it likely this can still be connected to the pulmonary embolism which was diagnosed on 26th March.
I am taking warfarin

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

If this tenderness seems to be similar to embolism you have had, you should consult your doctor right away. D-dimers level should be checked and INR level.
However such tenderness can be also caused by gallstones. Especially if the pain radiates to the back, nausea is present.
Please do not wait with it. Consult your doctor right away. To diagnose gallstones, abdominal ultrasound should be done.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

The tenderness is on the rib under the right breast.
I am taking warfarin and last INR was 1.9 so dosage slightly increased.
It is not intense only sore .i am attending GP surgery in the morning, it had decreased. Could it be the Pulmonary embolism still? When does the clot disintegrate?

Brief Answer:
.

Detailed Answer:
The main problem with pulmonary embolism is that it can give no symptoms at all or the symptoms can be very nonspecific. So as you have history of such embolism, and symptoms are similar, you should not ignore it as it still can be embolism.
The time of embolism disintegration depends of its size. Usually it takes a week or two.
