What Causes Tar Colored Stool When Suffering From Chronic Constipation?

Question: My son has chronic constipation. Now he is having dark tar like small stools. Could this mean intestinal bleeding?

Brief Answer: Investigate Detailed Answer: Does he take any medication for his constipation? Also does he take any iron supplements regularly. If all the above are negative then you surely need to investigate why he has tar colored stools. Suggest you to see a physician initially who would examine him and then if necessary suggest upper GI endoscopy and a colonoscopy. Take care
