default
Posted on Tue, 6 May 2014
Question: For several years I've had episodes of feeling like I was drugged when there was no reason. My throat feels, swollen and I have trouble swallowing and have no energy. It may last a few minutes or hours. I have been had dozens of tests, a few hospital stays. I have seen neurologists ,internists, cardiologists etc. My condition is being termed idiopathic which seems to mean my doctors have given up. ANY suggestions would be very welcome .Thank you XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: Hav you been evaluated for muscular disorders? Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about what you have been experiencing over the years. Being sick is concerning and being unable to know what the exact cause of your illness is makes it an even bigger problem. If these symptoms pose no real threat to your life and they are sparing, I will suggest that you accept the condition and not get too worried so as to have an acceptable level of calm. I will like to find out if you have been tested for conditions like myasthenia gravis. This is a disease state where the muscles become weak as they are used and symptoms depend on the affected muscle. Drugs like cholinesterase antagonist like neostigmine make the symptoms better. Ask your doctors about this and see if there are any possibilities for you to have a rapid assessment of this condition as a possible cause when your symptoms set in. For real, it is a difficult presentation and more so because extensive testing and investigation has been unable to identify the origin of your symptoms. Though not too sure that this is the exact cause, it costs very little to exclude or confirm it. I hope you find this useful and adds a new possible cause to the list for investigation. I wish you well and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be. Dr. Ditah, MD.
