yes treatment to slow the progress of dementia is there

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

Treatment to slow the progress of dementia is there.

First of all we need to differentiate that it is vascular dementia or Alzheimer type of dementia. In vascular dementia apart from dementia treatment from cardiovascular point of view should also be done.

First line of medical treatment is Cholinesterase inhibitor group of drugs which includes donepezil rivastigmine or galantamine.

The other agent is partial N -methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonist - memantine.

No other medicine is there with proven effectiveness for demetia.

Other supportive medicine like anti depressant, anti anxiety or antipsychotic drugs can be given depending upon symptoms.

Many experts believe that mentally challenging activities, such as doing crossword puzzles and brainteasers, may help. Whether such activities might slow the rate of disease progression in patients who already have AD is not known.

You can consult neuro physician or psychiatrist for treatment.

Hope I have answered your query, I will be happy to help further.
