What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes After Alcohol Consumption?

default
Posted on Mon, 17 Apr 2017
Question: What other causes for swollen lymph nodes after alcohol aside from lymphoma?
Please note that I always had large lymph nodes since child hood especially when having tonsilitis. I had tonsilitis this month and took antibiotics and the lymph nodes subsided after. But last night I had 1 shot of vodka and this morning my lymph nodes hurt. Im not sure if that was also the case last week. I started drinking just last week and never drank before. They say fatigue is also a symptom but Im not always tired lately though there was one time when I was especially when I was going back and forth driving inter towns.

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. It may be unrelated to lymphoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. So enlargement of lymphomatous nodes after drinking alcohol is seen sometimes in lymphoma but not always.
As you said you have recurrent tonsillar infections, they can cause enlarged nodes. Moreover any infection viral or bacterial of the nose or mouth or throat can lead to enlarged nodes but they should decrease in size after treatment.
If you have other features like progressive enlarging nodes, loss of weight, loss of appetite, fever, night sweats, prolonged fatigue, then evaluation is warranted. Otherwise, no need to worry.
Thanks and regards

Thank you Doc.
I am told that since childhood I have larger lymphnodes is this possible?
My 3 year old son also has large lymph nodes and often sweats at nigh even with air conditioning. Note that we are 4 people closely sleeping in a queen sized bed so its easy to sweat. What does night sweat specifically mean?

Then what causes lymph nodes to swell after alcohol?

What about those questions Sir?

Brief Answer:
Hello. Lymph nodes can be enlarged in children

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. Lymph nodes enlargement can be seen frequently in children It is due to high propensity of oral infections in them. Nodes are only pathological if they are increasing in size or associated with other features as i mentioned previously
Night sweating means profuse sweating during sleep which soaks your whole of the clothes.
After alcohol consumption there is vasodilatation of blood vessels, increase in blood flow which causes increase in size of nodes , leading to stretch of capsule of node and hence pain.
Hope i have solved your queries. Feel free to ask further.
Thanks and regards
