What Causes Swelling Near Collar Bone Despite Removing Swollen Lymph?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: Dear doctor, i had a surgery to remove a swelling lymph attached with the right collarbone three weeks ago. Though the biopsy report said it occurred due to chronic inflammation, after the surgery i felt a swelling on the right neck above collarbone. The GP i visited has administered amoxicillin antibiotics for it and i have been taking it for the last 10 days but it has not subsided. What could be the cause? I am still worried whether it is malignant. Could you please describe it clearly.

Brief Answer:
No cancer.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

As per your clinical details-

Post neck cyst removal, swelling in neck (lymph node enlargement) could be due to lymph obstruction in lymph vessels, progressing as an infection (increasing, painful on movements).

Do not worry, it’s just an infection (it takes time to have new lymph channels); it subsides with suitable antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications.

It's not a cancer (findings against to your swelling- short duration-10 days, painful). Have a faith on your treating doctor (you are on right medications)

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you a good health.
