Posted on Wed, 22 Mar 2017
Question: My husbands face and mouth is swollen. He is in the ICU, on life support. Could generic drugs interact with Lisinopril to cause this. Takes 3 pills, includes Metoprolol and Atorvastatin. Cleaning out (snooping) his medicine cabinet I found Coricidin HBP , Imodium A-D, Mucinex, Benadryl. I also found loose pills I do not recognize. they a light and dark green capsule . Marked, ( Mylan 0919), I assume this is over the counter drugs.
Back ground, He is a a heavy smoker and a beer alcoholic, every day. This just happened. I going in early to catch his doctor on his round. Just to be prepared I need information. Thanks in advance.

Brief Answer:
Edema of the oropharynx

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Drug interactions are not very clear in your case. All the drugs you mentioned do not have serious interactions. Generic drugs are safe too. Your husband is taking standard medication for high BP, Cholesterol. Besides he takes Benadryl, Mucinex for the cough and sputum. Imodium is for diarrhoea which he could have reserved for those times.

The current problem seems to be an edema of face and oropharynx of unknown reason. Looks to be allergic in nature but do not know why suddenly this should come. Smokers and alcoholic suddenly have new symptoms because their lungs and defenses are minimal to fight.

I pray for your husband and my thoughts there for full recovery.
