What Causes Swelling In Cheeks And Salivary Glands?

Question: hi doctor, the two glands inside my mouth, inside the cheeks are swollen. they keep getting bigger and smaller all the time. they have been like that for 2 weeks. they dont change in color. they are just swollen. I never had a cheek bite. I have been a heavy smoker for many years now, smoking a pack a day. I have reduced my tobacco intake now since those glands are swollen. everything else is normal, just those 2 are swollen. they are not painful. they are just swollen.

As far as the swelling in the cheek is concerned, it can be because of the inflamed salivary gland duct opening secondary to bacterial infection or any stone in the ducts.

I will recommend you consult an oral physician and get it evaluated. I feel you may need antibiotics like amoxicillin (if you are not allergic) if there are features of infection. Until then do saline gargling. These are the diagnosis and treatment plan based on the description of your problem by you. As per the images, it is clear that you have inflamed salivary gland openings. It can be of bacterial origin. Nothing to be panic, you can start with a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin and metronidazole (if you are not allergic ). Do saline gargling. You will be fine in 3 days.
