Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: Hello I am 46 year old lady. I married at age of 39 and since had two miscarriages lasting for 2 months and 5 wks consecutively. Since a year and a half I have been getting heavy periods every 16 to 17 days of end of each cycle. Also my bowel has become irregular as I have to go to relief 5 to 6 times a day especially early morning with severe cramps and strong urge to relieve every half an hour or half an hour after a meal. I want to conceive but not sure if it is possible in such state and age. If I do I fear abnormalities in my child. Pls advice

Brief Answer:
Conceiving at 46 years of age is high risk for baby and you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us about it.

I can understand your concern here.

Conceiving at the age of 46 years (as you are not achieving menopause, pregnancy is possible) is a high risk for baby and you. Hence it should always be planned.

If you conceive then you should monitor properly for Genetic diseases in your baby and chances of pre-eclampsia in you.

As you said your period are irregular and heavy is there any cause is found out at the ultrasound or it is due to perimenopausal stage?

Is there anything found out in your endoscopy?

Irregular bowel habits may be due to IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).

Can you please upload your reports so I will be able to contribute a better opinion to you.

Hoping to hear from you soon.

Good luck.
Regards
