What Causes Spotting While On Birth Control Pills?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: I'm a 48 yr old female recently back on the pill-Minastrin 24 Fe. I was off the pill for approximately 6 1/2 yrs to become pregnant. After a normal pregnancy I have had a normal period, without being on the pill. The only issue was it was approx 5 days with strong back pains. I went back on the pill about 5 months. Since then I have had spotting every two weeks until this last week. I have had my period for the last 7 days.

Brief Answer:
Local lesions should be ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Oral contraceptives can lead to spotting and irregular bleeding if the dose is inadequate or body starts adjusting to it.
You should consult an OBGYN specialist to rule out any other local lesions in cervix or vagina like polyp which can also cause irregular spotting or bleeding.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

I do appreciate the answer, but this is more than spotting. I have had my period, a normal period, and I'm not suppose to get my period until next week.

Brief Answer:
Internal examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, if it is more than spotting, then the internal examination and ultrasound are mandatory and the dose of the pills need to be revised.
