Question: Hi, I've had a sore and itchy butt crack that started I believe in the summer. It is itchy from the anus to the top of my butt and his very sore and at times I'm so sore it is difficult to sit. I use cleansing wipes after each bowel movement to keep the area clean and I have use Vaseline and other antibacterial ointments but nothing helps for more than a half hour and the itchy feeling and soreness starts up again. Is this something I need to go to the doctor for? I'm afraid of infection

Brief Answer:
Fungal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I have seen the attached pictures.
I can see that you have redness and maceration of the skin .
Such a skin maceration can result due to excess sweating and friction leading to candidiasis which is a common skin infection occurring on this area .
Keep the affected area clean and dry.
Wash the affected area with lukewarm saline water twice daily.
Applying a topical anti fungal cream like canestan cream over the area twice daily should help to treat the infection .
Such infections require regular treatment for atleast ten to fourteen days .
Antihistamine intake to control the allergic response will reduce the associated itching and irritation .

Do not apply any other cream or oil over the affected area.

Thank you Doctor. I will try the treatment you describe. I was worried that it may be an anal fissure. I appreciate your assistance
