default
Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: I am 35 years male

I am experiencing sore ribs frequently..After some days..they go..and come back.i don't know what's the cause?

Under the arm pits of left hand side they are most painful..and few ribs above the heart

Is this a cause of concern?

Do i need to get this checked thoroughly?

Few days back i visited a doctor..he simply said it maybe a muscle strain
I have chest and ECG done as per his advise...both are normal..
Later we can do a 2D ECHO..but he said..your heart maybe fine as you are 35 yrs only

I have quit smoking a year back..

Pls advise..I have a young family to take care..

Brief Answer:
There is no cause for concern

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

There is dictum , any left sided chest pain possibility of hear disease needs to be considered. Also not all left sided pain is due to heart disease.

The pain is unlikely to be due to heart disease for following reasons

1. If pain is experienced on pressing the affected area also known as Tenderness , it's much more likely to be due to musculoskeletal pain.

2. You are young and if you do not have any other associated risk factors like Diabetis, hypertension it's unlikely to be heart disease

3. Local of pain under the arm pit with sore ribs is very much likely to be due to musculoskeletal pain along with associated costochonditis of ribs .

4. Normal ECG is very much reassuring

The cause of pain is likely to be musculoskeletal pain. I understand your concern and apprehension of having some serious disorder . Let me assure you , your doctor has rightly advised you that at your young age it's unlikely to be serious problem . Also he has got the ECG done and ruled it out.

To lay to rest your stress and anxiety , I would also suggest you the following

1. 2 D echocardiogram : Even though not clearly indicated. It's a simple non invasive test and a normal report will be very reassuring to you.

2. Chest X ray AP view : To rule out inflammatory pathology of ribs

If both the reports are normal it will be very reassuring and there is absolutely nothing to do worried about. In the meantime I would suggest you the following

1. Local application of hot water fomentation

2. Analgesic like Ibuprofen will provide relief from pain

3. Continue taking medicine as advised by your Physician

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care

Your words made me feel better

I visited a pulmonologist today
He advised me to a TMT test..Even that came normal..
He said even if u do a 2D echo..it would be normal
He said it is due to vitamin deficiency
Most these are musocalsketal pains..he told me..

He prescibed me

Cholecalciferol chewable tablets (D3-More 60k)..Once a week for 8 weeks
Doleneuron 100 (Gabpentin&MethylCobalamin)..One pill after dinner
Coecoral D3 500(Coral calcium with Vitamin D3 tablet) twice daily

Is the prescribed medication will heal my pain in due course of time?
Is doleneuron pain killer?

Pls advise

Brief Answer:
Doleneuron will help relive pain

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Vitamin D and Calcium supplements definitely help in musculoskeletal pain. Doleneuron is combination of Gabapentin and Methylcobalamine. It helps in following ways

1. Gabapentin is anticonvulsant drug and helpful in pain due to nerve irritation and chronic musculoskeletal pain

2. Methylcobalamine is Vitamin B12 and also helps in pain management especially paraesthesia.

The given medicine will definitely be helpful in management . Also kindly follow the advise of Hot water fomentation.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.

Brief Answer:
Vitamin D deficiency can present with soreness of ribs

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Vitamin D deficiency can present sometime with soreness of ribs in adults. Doloneuron is unlikely to give headache as side side effect.
I would also suggest you the following

1. Ensure intake of meals at right appropriate time

2. Do not skip meals

3. Try taking tablet with glass of milk.

4. Uninterrupted sleep of 6 to 7 hours at night will take care of headache

5. If pain still persist, Combination of Paracetamol + Caffeine (Dolopar ) tablet will help relive pain.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life.
