Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: due to an ongoing back problem 8 weeks ago I started to take 30mg of morphine twice a day plus 600mg of gabapentine 3 times a day. About 3week ago I started to go off tea, coffee and some food. Then started to feel nauseated, now taking prochlorperazine. I now have a very heightened sense of smell, can't eat or drink because the smell makes me feel so sickly. I am coming off the morphine because of the side effects. Please can you help regarding smell. I am 71yrs

Hi,

Morphine and Codeine are known to vause disturbances on smell in few individuals

The good news is that the condition gets corrected by itself 3 to 4 weeks after stopping the drug.

So, other than stopping the drug, you need not do anything, except waiting for 3 to 4 weeks

Hope you found the answer helpful.
