What Causes Slurred Speech And Tongue Paralysis In An Elderly Person?
Question: my mother aged 67, she has slurred speech and unable to move tongue for swallowing, the problem persist approx one year, we had consult to GE, ENT and also some neurologist, CT, Endoscopy, Laringeoscopy all done with NAD, blood CBC, LFT KFT all Normal, no diabetes, BP normal,
problem is she unable to eat, unable to speak,
pls suggest what may be probable reason and to whom should i consult and where

Hello Dear. Can you send me all the reports what is being done till now? Need to see and evaluate.
Probably your mother is having stroke (Cerebro-vascular accident) or repeated transient ischemic attacks (TIA). These are the most common causes of slurred speech and difficulty in swallowing.
There are other causes like- barbiturate abuse, Insulin reaction (hypoglycemia), Medication reaction or side-effect, Tonsillitis, Intracranial hematoma, Brain aneurysm, Brain tumour etc, which looks unlikely in case of your mother because you say that CT scan, neurologist evaluation everything was done and it came out to be normal. But still if possible i wish to see the reports.
Sometimes a small lenticular stroke and also TIA goes unnoticed. So there is a possibility that it could not be detected and the symptoms are persisting.
I suggest you to meet another neurologist and take a second opinion. If required, CT scan may be repeated or the doctor may ask for a MRI scan because minute details are better visualized in MRI scan.
