default
Posted on Thu, 29 Dec 2016
Question: For the last 2 weeks I have had a periodic 1x to 2x a day a shooting pain in the left side of my head. It only lasts a few seconds. in addition, occasionally in the past two weeks while sitting at my desk I'll have dizzy spell that last about 10 seconds. My only other symptom is my left eye has been a bit watery but this week I have been tired due to jet lag and I can't remember if that occurred before I left for vacation on 11/27. The head pain started a few days before vacation.

Brief Answer:
Probably ice pick headaches.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Regarding to your symptoms, since the shooting pain lasts only seconds, stabbing ( or ice pick ) headache is the most likely condition to consider.

It is considered as a primary headache (without underlying causes), however, getting evaluated clinically by your primary care Doctor is necessary to confirm this possibility.

These headaches occur more in people that suffer from migraines or cluster headaches, may be triggered by anxiety and are difficult to treat.

Melatonin is found to help prevent them.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
