Question: My daughter has been having sever upper back pain for awhile 2-3 weeks. went to the doctor and was found to have aUTI, put on antibiotics. it went away for one day- now back w/ a vengence. she is drinking lots , but doesn't think she is urinating as much as she is drinking. I think maybe it is a kidney stone??? do you think she needs to go to the ER? what would they do ?

Brief Answer:
Please see a Urologist who can get the requisite investigations done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
What is your Daughters age?
It could be one of many problems like stones as you mention or more commonly Vesico-ureteral reflux which is fairly common in young girls and children.
I suggest you see a Urologist and get a Urine culture and a Ultrasound KUB done. She also might require some contrast studies like a MCU-RGU which are specialized XRays to see whether there is any reflux of urine into the upper system.
Do not worry, once the cause is ascertained the treatment can be done.
I do not think you need to take her to the ER but get a Urologist appointment and get the investigations done as advised.
This would be able to tell us what is wrong.
Meanwhile, you should continue the antibiotics as advised by your Doctor.
Take care and do let me know if there are any other queries.
