Question: My question to Dr XXXXXXX Heijebu only

Dr XXXXXXX
When I am tired, I get severe headache and feel vomiting sensation in my stomach. Then I suffer with this for 4-5 hours till I vomit completely out of my stomach. Until then, I cannot take any food. Does this happen due to lack of stamina? Do advise.

Brief Answer:
Probable Migraine.Needs evaluation and treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

I understand your concern.

Your symptoms are suggestive of Migraine which could be due to environmental factors or hormonal imbalance.

Common triggers quoted are stress, hunger, and fatigue & Psychological stress.
Migraines have also been associated with post-traumatic stress disorder and abuse.Migraines are more likely to occur around menstruation, use of oral contraceptive pills, pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause.

Initial management with Simple analgesics like Ibuprofen and Paracetmol will be helpful. In resistant cases Triptans will be the treatment of choice.

Note:These drugs should be taken under strict medical prescription of your doctor.

Life style modification ,analgesics and trigger avoidance will relieve your symptoms.

Yes of course improving stamina also decreases the frequency of attacks.

Answered by Dr. Prasanna Heijebu (16 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Ibuprofen can be taken for 3-5 days during the attacks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

Welcome again,

Generally I prescribe Ibuprofen 400 mg twice daily to my patients with these complaints so please check with your doctor whether he agrees with my view and prescribes the same.

Ibuprofen can be taken for 3-5 days when you have an attack depending on the severity of symptoms.

Advil liquigel is more fast acting version of Ibuprofen to relieve your symptoms faster. You can obtain a prescription from your local doctor.

Thanks! But how could I avoid migrane attacks?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Prasanna Heijebu (8 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Please follow the below instructions.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

You can follow these simple ways:

1.Prevent low blood sugar as it will cause migraine.

For each of your small meals, choose options such as fresh fruits and vegetables with a protein like an egg or lean meats. This will help you keep your blood sugar steady throughout the day.

2.Avoid food containing tyramines and nitrates like potatoes, chocolates, citrus ,tomatoes, fried foods, bananas, sauce etc

3.Avoid foods which you are allergic to as it will trigger the attack.

4.Drink minimum 3-4 liters of water daily as dehydration will trigger.

5.Avoid exposure to bright light, noisy sounds and watching TV for longer duration.
