What Causes Severe Headache Along With Fever And Chills?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: My husband has had a low grade fever, severe headache, chills sometimes so bad shaking and tensing up of the muscles results. when he is cold...he can't get warm enough...then he is so hot, there is no relief.
Went to the clinic yesterday and saw a P.A. She really couldn't see anything wrong except a redding in his ear canal. Lungs clear... throat ok. She prescribed amoxicillian 875 and methocarbamol 500 mg for his muscles. Couldn't sleep last night. He is just miserable. At the moment he has no fever, but his headache is almost unbearable. What else can we do to provide him with relief?

Brief Answer:
sinusitis secondary to viral fever.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you husband is having headache. I would like to ask you few more details

Is there any post nasal drip (sinus secretions trickling back into throat) ?
Is there running nose or nasal obstruction?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be sinusitis secondary to viral infection.

I suggest the following measures, to overcome your viral fever.

1. Viral fever, is always self limiting. Continue same antibiotics (to prevent complications).

2. Take paracetamol (dolo 650mg) twice daily (best works for head-ache and fever).

3. Avoid water per ear ear, to prevent extension of ear infection.

4. steam inhalation.

5. Anti-allergic medication like tab.citrizine 10mg daily at bed time (over the counter)

In case of persistence, need to see ent to rule out other causes.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
