default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: My sons ear has been red for a very long time. Since January 9th of this year has been in severe pain in his eyes. He describes this as thorns in his eyes. I am wondering if the inner ear staying red could be causing the eye pain?

Brief Answer:
Seems to be a migraine.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that your son is having redness in ear with pain in the eyes.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be migraine or due to external allergen (seborrhic dermatitis or lice infestation) or due to sun burn.

I suggest you to consult ent surgeon and get detailed ent examination (migraine), skin scraping test for fungal infection and blood tests (absolute eosinophilic count serum IgE).

As such, there are no symptoms of active infection of inner ear (no ear discharge, hearing loss, vertigo and nystagmus). Most of the major investigations (MRI) ruled out for other causes.

You can start empirically prophylactic anti allergic medication like L-montus (citrizine with montelukast (best works for food and environmental allergies) with sibilium 5mg once daily. These are prescribed medications, need medical prescription and need to take under guidance.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
