What Causes Redness And Dry Skin On The Penis Post Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Oct 2017
Question: Hi,
I received oral sex 5 days ago and had a dry skin spot that peeled off my penis head in a few days. There is a tiny red mark there, however and it still looks dry. No bump or pimple. I also have some dry skin around the penis opening as well. Could it be an STD or a simple infection? Pic attached.

Brief Answer:
Yeast infection. Not an STD

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am Dr. Kakkar (Dermatologist and Venereologist). I have gone through your query and i have viewed the images.
Yes, i can see some flaking and a red spot. It seems that you have a yeast infection on glans penis. This is not an STD.
I suggest you to use a topical antifungal e.g clotrimazole 1% cream, twice daily for a week. Clotrimazole cream is available over the counter.

Thank you!

Would there be a little bit of burning/tenderness/tingling around the dry areas as well? Any other symptoms of yeast infection I should be aware of?

Appreciate it.

Great.

Could this spot and dryness be misdiagnosed by a doctor as infection vs. STD? If so, which one would it most likely be?

I have read that these infections could cause some exhaustion as well, is that the case?

Thanks again, I will leave a good review. Your advice was appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Regarding STDs

Detailed Answer:
hi.

STDs usually present either as genital sores, urethral discharge, burning micturation or growths/warts, swollen nodes etc rather than as flaking, dryness.. The image that you uploaded is not suggestive of any STD.
STDs are mostly localized genital infections and may cause local pain and burning e.g genital herpes or they may be completely asymptomatic e.g genital warts.
Although fever, malaise, exhaustion, skin rash may be seen with systemic involvement in certain STDs e.g syphilis, HIV etc

Hello,

I have updates on my condition. I have added two photos for reference. I woke up two days ago with some swelling around my penis (16 days after oral sex), below the head. It lasted 20 minutes and went down. This happened twice.

I am still experiencing some burning and redness. Along with a potential white spot underneath the skin (see photo) which I believe has been there for a bit of time. No blisters, but a couple of small tiny white spots underneath skin are present around area of swell.

The dryness has gone away with Lotrimin lotion, but I still have some redness and the tip of my penis is still red (as it was 4 hours after oral sex).

The girl took STD test (including Herpes) a few weeks prior to our encounter, but I wonder if this is Balantis, yeast or something else?

Any help appreciated!

Brief Answer:
I suggest an oral antifungal

Detailed Answer:
thank you.

Good to know that lotrimin (clotrimazole) has helped somewhat, by reducing flaking and redness. Residual redness and swelling could be due to either remaining yeast infection or to soap cleansing or even possibly due to lotrimin cream. I suggest you to discontinue lotrimin if its already been a week of use. You may rather take an oral antifungal e.g single dose of Tab. Fluconazole 150mg. Use plain, lukewarm water to clean the area. Avoid soap. The white spots are most likely either blocked glands or Fordyce spots which does not require any active intervention.

Alright, I will discuss with my doctor.

I have a couple of those small white spots, some are very small. I believe a couple of them may have shown up during this infection, any worry on those? Do blocked glands/Fordyce occur during a yeast infection or balantis?

I believe oral antifungals in the United States are prescribed, correct? Or do you know?

Brief Answer:
Regarding your genital complaints

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Fordyce spots (which are ectopic sebcaeous glands) usually present as pin head sized yellowish/ creamy, multiple bumps on the undersurface of the prepuce in many individuals. They may have been present earlier though you might have discovered them now because recently you have been concerned about the skin changes on penis and therefore having a closer look at all the details, whereas blocked glands may have been a new development because of the inflammation. Anyways both these conditions don't require any active intervention. Blocked glands are self resolving as the inflammation would settle..

Yes, oral fluconazole is a prescription drug. I suggest that you talk to your primary care physician regarding the needful. Till you are able to find fluconazole you may continue with lotrimin for 2-3 more days.

Sounds good.

I also have some slight discolored spots (maybe a tad brown/yellow) underneath the head of penis, around where the swelling took place. What could that be?

And one very tiny and small red dot, maybe not 1mm large.

Thanks for all the info doctor.

Regarding your genital complaints

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

The brown spots are perhaps genital lentigines, a benign condition. Red spot could be part of yeast infection/ inflammation.
