Viral Exanthem

Hi...I have gone through your answers and the photos you have sent. With a backdrop of cough and cold a few days back, I feel this could be a viral exanthema - which means a mild viral illness starting with cough and cold and culminating with a rash which also will settle in due course. Sometimes such rash due to a viral illness can get aggravated when topical agents are applied.

I suggest the following -
1. Stop the emollient cream/ lotion.
2. Keep the area dry by dry moping it and if possible apply mild talcum powder to keep the area dry (as it is in a flexural area - sweat might aggravate it).
3. Use an anti-allergic medication to be given orally which is available over the counter (oral antiallergic like Hydroxyziine or Cetrizine).
4. Fever might come - Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
