What Causes Recurrent Sickness In Children?
Question: Hi, my granddaughter ( she is 10 years old) along with 5 kids became sick with a virus in XXXXXXX It took over a week for my granddaughter to get well. But , every couple of weeks, she gets a fever again. Last week she complained that her back was hurting her real bad, the doctor checked her for a UTI and gave her medication.. Everything was good until this morning, she is sick again. She has had blood test and nothing shows up. I suggested that she be checked for Lyme disease (I hope I spelled that right) The doctor doesn't think that that is necessary because there is no evidence of a tick bite. Is there anything else that you think she should be checked for?

Hello. I just read through your question. One thing to keeping mind is that patients in the pediatric age range can go through periods of recurrent illness, usually due to repeated exposures to others with illness (usually their peers).
Having said that, I would consider Mono as a possible diagnosis. Lyme typically requires a tick with the pathogen to remain attached to the body for 24-48 hours. If that happened, it probably would have been noticed. Still, it's a simple blood test. So if blood is being drawn for anything else (ie: mono), you can have Lyme titers drawn as well.
