What Causes Puffy And Bloodshot Eyes In The Morning?

default
Posted on Sat, 6 Feb 2016
Question: I'm female, age 64. In the mornings, particularly, my eyes are so puffy I can hardly see, and my eyes are very bloodshot. This gets even worse if I've eaten high sodium foods. Is there a solution?

Brief Answer:
Kidney tests needed

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.

Morning puffiness is invariably a sign of kidney dysfunction. Detail checkup of kidney is required starting with kidney function test that is a blood test. Low sodium intake and control of blood pressure and all precautions are needed to keep kidneys healthy.

Since there is significant morning puffiness this is indicator that kidneys are not good. Take care of your diet and medication and do get back to me in case of any further query in this regard.

Hope it helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

My doctor had blood drawn, and my kidney function is fine, and so is my thyroid. He also did another test for heart failure, and that was fine too. He prescribed a diuretic and I discontinued taking Celebrex, which I have been taking for years. My blood pressure is also high, which is very unusual. Any further thoughts?

Brief Answer:
Kidney involvement

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for getting back to us.

The kidney involvement which I was emphasising about and fortunately kidney is OK,has been the reason why diuretics were given to you.

As thyroid, kidney , heart are OK and you already have stopped celebrax , then we are left with two things one is taking care of general health, including less salt intake and two recheckup of kidneys after 6months to a year.

Any further query in this regard please do get back to me.
