What Causes Post Nasal Mucus Discharge And Throat Irritation?

default
Posted on Sat, 1 Aug 2015
Question: This problem used to be infrequent, but now is almost every day and for a longer duration. I get a post nasal mucus discharge requiring constant throat clearing and at the same time it seems like there is a direct connection from "my voice" to my left ear. It seems like a valsalva manuever is much more effective in "popping' the effected ear, but it does not resolve the loud speech problem in that ear. The problem goes away after about 5 hours. I thought it might be allergy as I am exposed to lots of dust but it happens on days off away from irritants. It never happens until I have been up and around for a couple of hours and usually subsides by early evening. It makes it difficult to talk because my voice is so loud in that ear and the mucus problem in the throat.

Brief Answer:
You are mostly having eustachian tube blockage.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your situation and problem.
By your history and description, possibility of eustachian tube blockage is more.
Eustachian tube is small tube like structure running from inner ear to the back of throat.
So any problem in this causes problem in throat and ear both.
Common cause is blockage and mostly due to either infection or allergy.
In both these conditions antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs are useful.
So better to star these drugs.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
