What Causes Pimple Type Lesion On Vaginal Area?

Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: HI, I visited my doctor yesterday as I have been having a small bump or two pop up on and off on the labia area, they are kind of like pimples, if squeezed a small amount of white solidish substance comes out. I have had them on and off for 13 years. She has told me it looks like a wart, however it is not at all like the pictures I have seen. So I am wondering if it is warts? my husband and I have been exclusively with each other for 18 years and he does not have them. I am extremely healthy, never even get a cold and recover from a bruise of cut very fast.

Brief Answer:
Folliculitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
The lesions on the labia that you are mentioning are unlikely to be warts as by their typical description with skin coloured bumps with pus points which when popped shows white cheesy sebaceous material coming out of it. these are typical folliculitis lesions in the pubic/ genital region often develop after shaving the area. These lesions are often inflamed and painful but shall resolve spontaneously once they ar popped out.
Else a local antiseptic ointment or even butadiene ointment applied locally thrice a day for 3 days can easily take care of them. For better diagnosis please attach photographs of the lesions.
i hope i have answered your query,
Regards

Thank you you have eased my mind somewhat.
However the area is not anywhere where I would shave as it is in the inner lips (Labia) or on the edge where the bumps appear. Am I right in understanding that if there is sebaceous material being able to come from the bump then it is not warts?

Brief Answer:
Folliculitis is most likely here, conservative treatment is best.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the follow up,
there is a sebaceous material coming out after popping the bump and post that it disappears, then it is likely to be folliculitis and not a genital wart as warts cannot be popped and they shall not disappear on their own without either a electrocauterization, laser or excision.
So they are more likely to be folliculitis of your inner lip and has to be managed conservatively. Regards
