What Causes Persistent Pain In The Lower Left Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Jan 2017
Question: Hello Doctor, from last 3 days i have lower left pain in abdomen. I started feeling the pain one evening which i thought might be due to stomach gas. Next 2 days the pain increased and it is in its specific area only. Today is lighter than yesterday but pain is still there

I can feel the pain when i press that area, laugh suddenly, sometimes stretch and sometimes when walking also, i believe pain tends to ease after i poop and i feel the sensation of pooping more times a day. I feel constipated but i try and in bits and pieces, i go 3-4 times a day. However, morning poop is like regular. I do feel bloated, wanting to fart, and i do most of the times, but i somehow feel this pain is a little differemt from regular gas, can it be just gastric pain? I sometimes also observe black pepper like dots in my stool.

Intensity of the pain varies sometimes its high sometimes its low.

PleAse advise.

I can visit a doctor but right now i am outside my country and do not have insurance. I am going back on 25 th, shall i wait to go back or get it checked no matter?

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
Hi looks like not much to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query

I can understand your concern

Possibly you have a infection in tummy with an underlying sensitive stomach.
Drink plenty of water (mineral water) in the first place

It'll be worthwhile getting an stool examination, complete blood count and ultrasound of abdomen done, if possible.
Take lots of curd n butter milk along with probiotic if available over the counter where ever you are.
You can try Tab Rifaxaminin 200mg if available there over the counter twice a day for 5 days and see how you feel

Pain can be managed by taking over the counter Paracetamol (Tylenol) 650mg thrice a day after food.

With this if you feel better then can wait on further evaluation but if your pain increases if you develop fever or urinary symptoms then the above mentioned tests need to be done at earliest.

Hope this answers your questions
Wish you a speedy recovery
