Hi Dr XXXXXXX
This is Just a follow up to you. I had the arthroscopy done on 3/24 as scheduled. I thought I would be nearly pain free post procedure, but I was wrong. My ortho did a medial partial menisectomy and smoothed out some of the bony surface, not sure where. I have mild to moderate arthritis is what he told me. But yesterday and the day before, when I walk I get the same biting type pain medially. This morning I feel pretty good. I start PT today 3 x week x 2 weeks. When smoothing the bone surface, what kind of pain symptoms should I expect? Also I have back of the knee discomfort as well. I haven't felt this since the onset of my symptoms in November before I knew I was having arthritis and torn cartilage. I don't think it's a dvt!
Thanks
XXXX

Hi XXXX

I believe you aren't supposed to bear weight on the operated limb so soon after meniscus surgery.

Give it time to heal. Do use a knee brace while walking, without bearing weight on the affected limb. Practice long elevation over a couple of pillows.

Physiotherapy is essential to improve range of motion and strengthen the Quadriceps muscle which will help to reduce the pain and inflammation.

The degenerative changes in your joint could contribute to the pain. Medial joint line tenderness or pain is nearly pathognomic of degenerative arthritis.

Do perform Physiotherapy and watch if the pain subsides in a couple of months.

Hi Dr A,
PT went well today. It is hard not to over do my activities. Have to limit myself, but even though I hurt this evening, I'm better today than yesterday. I just wanted to let you know how I was doing post procedure.
Thanks for getting back with me.
