What Causes Persistent Pain In Back And Nerve Compression Symptoms Post Cervical Fusion Surgery?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I had a cervical fusion surgery 8 years ago and I had another fusion surgery from T10 to L1 with laminactomy 8 moths ago. I have still moderate kyphosis and moderate stenosis with osteopyhtes at T7 and T8 and creating back pain with breathing problems. After 8 months of surgery, I have still severe back pain and diaphragm pain with breathing problems and sciatica pain. Is there something wrong happened with the surgery and after like failed back syndrome? Should I apply for long term disability as mobility was reduced with sciatica and back pain, I cannot stand and sit more than 30 minutes, the fusion surgery made my pain worst.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to failed back syndrome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The persistent pain in the back and the nerve compression symptoms after the surgery can be due to further progression of the degeneration or due to failed back syndrome. If you are unable to sit without pain even for 30 minutes then you need to apply for long term disability after consulting your orthopedician.
Regular physiotherapy and TENS can help in reducing the further progression of the problem. Do consult a pain specialist for proper pain relief medicines.
I hope this answers your query.
