default
Posted on Mon, 25 May 2015
Question: Hi Doc..My child had fever since the past 10 days but initially a lot of time got wasted since docs were treating him for viral infections and he was being given Meftal and cepodem. It was only been 2 days frm now that proper tests were done and he was diagnosed with typhoid through a widal test.He has now been prescribed Ofloxacin Oral,Cetirizine syrup IP and Augpen HS along with Meftal P for fever but he still gets fever as high as 103 .By when will the fever subside or am I just hurrying up? He does not vomit and his diet has definitely become slightly better but I am worried about the fever.Does it take time to subside? Pls advise..

Brief Answer:
Needs more investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

10 days of fever definitely requires thorough investigations. I would also recommend him to be on iv antibiotics.

Here is what I recommend

1. Widal test what you have attached is positive. However another reading is required to see for an increasing trend
2. I would look for focus of infection by getting blood culture, urine routine and chest x Ray and complete blood count done
3. Continue taking the antibiotics , your doctor has given the right combination of antibiotics but I prefer them to be in Intravenous form
4. avoid cold beverages milk and milk products
5. make sure the food is bland
6. tepid sponging on the forehead and axilla will bring down the temperature

usually antibiotics take about 48 to 56 hours to show some form of results. If the fever continues please get him admitted

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
