What Causes Persistent Fatigue While On Levothyroxine?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Mar 2017
Question: My TSH came back at 30.50. My doctor put me on Levothyroxine 0.125 mg. I am still always tired, hair is falling out (mildly) and my skin is very dry. I had a scan 2 years ago and showed a nodule and was treated with a radioactive pill. Why do I still feel this way and what can I expect in the near future?

Brief Answer:
a couple of weeks are required for the first signs of improvement

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

it may take a few weeks to completely reverse the clinical sequelae of hypothyroidism and at least a 1-2 weeks are required for the first signs of improvement. The TSH levels should be checked 6 weeks after starting treatment. The dosage might have to be adjusted then.

Kind Regards!
