Question: My 28 months old have had cough for some 5 weeks. We tried normal meds, then switched to nebulisation with asthalin and budecort respules. Cough still persistent, doc suggested huff n puff kit with Asthalin MDI n Budecort MDI. Am a little confused and scared if this is ok
Brief Answer:
Get your child investigated if symptoms persist.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your doctor should be thinking of wheeze associated respiratory illness. So he prescribed that bronchodilator you mentioned.
Monitor for the following in your kid.
1. Rapid breathing.
2. Chest indrawing while breathing.
3. Abnormal noise while breathing.
4. Nasal flaring
5. Bluish discoloration of fingers (cyanosis)
6. Irritability or lethargy
If your baby has any of these you should consult your doctor immediately.
Also contact your doctor if the cough persists despite these medications or if he develops fever. If the cough persists he may have to be investigated with investigations like CBC, ESR, Mantoux, X ray chest etc. Further action depends on the investigation reports.
Continue to ask further queries as required.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
