Question: Hi,
My father, aged 61 is diabetic for past 7 months. Although his blood sugar levels are in good control, he has lost taste for food and is suffering from low mood. We are trying to give him variety of foods but he often complains of bad taste. At times, he also complains of vomiting tendency before having a meal and has actually vomited couple of times while eating.
Is there any medicine/way to regain his taste buds, so that he eats well and leads a normal lifestyle.
Please let me know in case further details required.
Thanks a lot for the advice.
Regards, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Dear Sir, Follow the advice given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir, I have gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Sir, B12 vitamin deficiency which is common in diabetes is the reason for this condition. Give him Methylcobalamin injections once a week for four weeks. After that start oral tablet of methylcobalamin 1500mcg, one tablet daily. along with diabetic medication.

Also give him a tablet of Ranitidine, daily in the morning before food. This prevents gastritis and thus vomiting sensations also.

Also advice him to have slow walk for 15-20 minutes daily.

Thank you sir.
