What Causes Persistant Loose Motion?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 May 2014
Question: Hello, I have persistant loose motion for around 5 years now. Sometimes when I eat home made food continuously and avoid nuts, meats, spices etc my stool may be slightly normal. I also have fatty liver disease. I do health check up every year and 4 years ago I done colonoscopy and it was normal. My blood occult test last year was also normal. Few years back a doctor told me that it might be because of fatty liver and also Irritable Bowel Disorder. I also have high cholesterol and uric acid.I am 35 years old.

Brief Answer: Detailed below. Detailed Answer: Hello! Thank you for the query. Your loose stools can be caused by chronic bowels infection. It is more possible if the symptoms have started after some trip or antibiotic intake. Due to bad bacteria grow in the intestines, loose motions can be present for a very long time. That is why you should have stool test and stool culture test at first. You should also try Rifaximine treatment. This is a very special antibiotic which can help with your symptoms. If it wont help, you should try Trimebutinum treatment for IBS. Sometimes thyroid issues can also give loose motions. That is why, thyroid tests should be also done. Colonoscopy rules other, serious issues. Your cholesterol levels are not that bad. With good diet (no fatty foods, no spicy foods, no alcohol), it should lower. Diet can also reverse fatty liver. If diet wont help, you should be prescribed with medicines called statins. Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions. Regards.
