What Causes Pelvic Pain When Diagnosed With An Ovarian Cyst?

Posted on Mon, 24 Oct 2016
Question: Hello,

I am 6weeks pregnant with two gestations. Twin A at 5wks5d had viability confirmed and in the other sac Twin B showed no yoke sac or heartbeat. My doctor informed me that if nothing grows in Twin B's sac to not worry as my body will simply absorbe the other sac and that the viable pregnancy will remain healthy. I am although a little concerned as in May of this year I went to my RE and a cyst on my left ovary was discovered that affected my menstrual cycle causing a delay in my cycle so I was given progesterone to induce my cycle where as of July 1st my period did come back down. I am now pregnant naturally with no fertility treatments but am experiencing some pain around the left ovary where the cyst once was. I had an ultrasound on Thursday and my doctor said that nothing showed ectopic in either tube but I am worried about the pain that I am feeling. It feels as though my pried is still trying to come down or that the cyst is back on my left ovary as I remember the constant pain on the left side from back in XXXXXXX and July of this year. I recall my doctor stating at my visit on Thursday that the pain could possibly be from wher I ovulated when I got pregnant. Could I be threatening a miscarriage or is this normal as he never told me if he saw another cyst he only said something about seeing a possible ovulation site on my left ovary that could be causing pain?

Brief Answer:
Pain due to ovulation

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
The pain in the left side is most likely due to the ovulation pain, and is unlikely due to cyst, if it is not visible in the ultrasound.
Moreover, if the pregnancy is there, the ovaries develop increased blood supply which can cause pain and discomfort.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Would the pain be constant? Almost like a pulling warm feeling only on that one side? No sharp pains, no bleeding, nothing it just sits there all day long feeling like that.

I ended up going into the ER. They were able to get a fetal pole on Twin A but only saw a gestational sac and a yok sac on Twin B but no fetal pole on Twin B. I am now afraid due to the pain that I am feeling that I will miscarry both babies. I have been informed of vanaishing Twins. Is it common to miscarry this early on both babies?
Please keep in my mind my doctor could not find a yoke sac on Twin B at all on Thursday. So would this possibly be a good sign?

Brief Answer:
Miscarriage unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, miscarriage is unlikely due to pain.
Moreover, if the yolk sac has developed over time in twin B, then there are good chances that gradually the fetal pole and cardiac activity will develop.
I suggest you not to worry and be positive.
