What Causes Peeling Skin And Pale Yellow Bulged Skin Near Nails?
Question: Dear doctor,
My daughter (aged 4 years old) is having a problem with root of nail which normally will be inside the skin has come outside and little bit of skin is exposed on couple of fingers. In other fingers it might come off in another day or two. Also the lower edge which normally will be white is little PALE YELLOW AND BULGED. Basically on all the fingers of both the hands, the part of nail (not sure if it is called root) that stays inside the skin are not either present inside the skin or might come out of skin any time.
Probably 2-3 weeks back she was complaining about upper part of skin near the start of nail peeling off. Not sure if both are related.
I am attaching few pictures taken. Please have a look and kindly let us know the issue and solution.

She reported it today after coming back from the school. We did not notice it earlier.
- Is she complaining of pain at these region.
She complained of pain in one of the fingers today after returning from school.
- Any other skin problem in her.
Very Small red pimples on her face.. We were planning to apply coconut oil.
2 weeks back little bit of skin was getting peeled off (I have seen this happening to me as well sometimes like dry skin peeling off).
Around 6-8 months back she had black pimples and we went to skin specialist and he said it is due to dry skin and asked us to apply coconut oil. It went off.
- Any history of long term illness in her.
She had viral cold one month back.
- How's her diet.
Diet is good - we give balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, pulses, green leaves etc.
She does not have any issues with appetite.

After analyzing the complete condition let me reassure you that the nail pattern is due to simple delay on the growth process at the nail root.
To explain you simply : as your daughter got viral illness a month back so due to same it resulted in bit delay in the growth of nail. It is quite common to find such kind of appearance due any illness or nutrients deficiency or any related problems.
You can see that the condition is present exactly near the nail root which implies a very recent process within few weeks. Our nail grows 0.1 mm per day so accordingly you can see that it is near the nail root.
The mild pain is due to thin nature of nails in the children.
This condition is self resolving and need no treatment. You can apply simple coconut oil or any moisturising cream for mutual times a day.
